BBQ Sunday 16th July 2017

Dunmow Twinners gathered for a barbecue lunch in the (as always) immaculate gardens of Crouches Farmhouse, to be welcomed with a glass of Pimms. The weather was reasonable, though showers were forecast – gazebos were spread throughout the garden (and anchored) ‘just in case’.

In addition to the ‘usual suspects’ we were delighted to welcome some new members. Free drinks (wine, beer, juice and soft drinks) were included in the modest ticket price, so everyone was soon relaxed. Conversation flowed, not least regarding the impressive vegetable garden and also our forthcoming October trip to Le Tréport in France.

Our host David Beedle set to work on the magnificent (borrowed) barbecue: burgers and bangers were soon available, accompanied by a variety of sauces and plentiful salad, thanks to the hard work of host Patsy and a team of committee members led by our secretary Marian Steven. A dessert of strawberries and cream, with delicious home-made meringues, rounded off an excellent meal.

After a mainly sunny afternoon the promised shower finally arrived, so the gazebos (in particular the large drinks tent) came into their own. Members finally departed around 4pm, after another very enjoyable event. Our generous hosts David & Patsy had again performed brilliantly, and the committee all worked hard to make the day a success.
